The George Mason University Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies, within the College of Science, seeks applicants for a Research Assistant Professor position. Responsibilities: The selected candidate will conduct original research on the seasonal prediction and predictability of the tropical Indo-Pacific sea surface temperature and Asian monsoon circulation and rainfall. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting and analyzing ensemble prediction experiments using the NCEP Climate Forecast System, version 2 (CFSv2), to examine the systems sensitivity to initialization, physical parameterizations and air-sea coupling. The initialization includes generating ocean and land initial conditions for CFSv2 predictions from different reanalysis products. The analysis will include comparison with other prediction and simulation data sets. The position is a one-year appointment with the possibility of extension for up to two additional years depending on availability of funding and performance.

Required Qualifications: * Ph.D. in atmospheric science or physical oceanography, and several years of relevant research experience; and * Must be well-versed in climate modeling and analyzing large climate data sets.

Preferred Qualifications: * Candidates with experience in seasonal ensemble prediction using coupled ocean-atmosphere general circulation models and familiar with ocean and land initializations are preferred.
