The George Mason University School of Music invites applications for the position of Director of Strings, beginning Fall 2017. Responsibilities: This is a full-time assistant or associate term applied faculty artist teacher position with appropriate salary and benefits. Primary responsibilities of the incumbent include applied teaching of graduate and undergraduate music majors within the School of Music, and recruitment of orchestral string students. Additional responsibilities may include teaching string pedagogy courses, coaching string chamber music, or conducting string sectionals for the Mason Symphony Orchestra.

As Director of Strings, the successful artist teacher will be responsible for recruiting as well as developing and coordinating the orchestral strings area in cooperation with the Director of Orchestral Studies.

Required Qualifications * Masters degree in music; * Distinguished record of teaching and artistry; * Commitment to recruitment and developing relationships with area music educators; * Demonstrated success with teaching in the contexts of a liberal arts university; and * Strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualification * Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) degree.

This position is pending budgetary approval from the university. The start date will be August 14, 2017.
