  • Holds a Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in English as a Second Language

  • Has a minimum of five years of successful experience in the teaching ELLs at the elementary or secondary level

  • Has experience in teacher mentoring or coaching in inclusive and collaborative teaching models; Has a strong background experience in curriculum design; Has a strong commitment to quality, standards-based education for a culturally diverse community

  • Has demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with school personnel and members of the community

  • Knowledge of Federal/State/Local policies, State Board of Education Rules, Federal and State Accountability Systems, and Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) regulations; Knowledge of sheltered and inclusive instructional strategies

  • Knowledge of state approved assessments for English Language Learners; Knowledge of research based practices for English Language Learners; Knowledge of the IDA English Language Development Standards

  • Ability to plan and conduct research-based and data-driven professional developments; Strong consultation skills for conferencing with administrators and teachers; Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; Extensive knowledge of planning for ELL students in need of intervention

JOB DESCRIPTION:  

The ELL Staff Developer, in cooperation with the ELL Supervisor, is responsible for providing instructional leadership and expertise to schools and teachers as they work collaboratively to ensure academic achievement and accelerated language development for all English Language Learners. The ELL Staff Developer is knowledgeable in research-based instructional strategies, second language acquisition, and WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards. The ELL Staff Developer has experience in the practical application of ELL appropriate instructional strategies, teacher mentoring and/or coaching, professional development for teaching and administrative staff, curriculum development, and collaborative or co-teaching instructional settings.


 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Supports the ELL Supervisor’s efforts to evaluate the effectiveness of the ELL instructional program, designs professional development based upon data and student needs, and ensures that Loudoun County Public School’s ELL instructional program is responsive to guidelines established by federal and state requirements concerning LEP students

  • Supports the ELL Supervisor with efforts to monitor that instruction for ELLs is standard-aligned, rigorous, grade-level appropriate, and provides deliberate and appropriate scaffolds

  • Develops and coordinates data driven, high-quality, research-based professional development in language acquisition strategies which includes: instructional coaching, co-teaching, literacy intervention, and modeling for a wide array of stakeholders: administrators, ELL teachers, content teachers, special education teachers, and gifted education teachers

  • Aligns and revises standards-driven curriculum to the WIDA ELD Standards, provides professional development on how to effectively connect the WIDA standards framework to state standards, and models how to integrate WIDA ELD Standards into instructional practice

  • Develop and align curriculum to ensure ELL students can meaningfully access grade level content

  • Assists with the selection and planning of appropriate instructional resources that impact LEP students

  • Performs related work as required

OTHER INFORMATION:  ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
The ELL Staff Development Trainer is responsible to the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and reports to the Director of Teaching and Learning through the ELL Supervisor.
