Job Title: MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST II - EMERGENCY SERVICES (2 POSITIONS) Salary: $26.76 - $40.89 Hourly
$2,140.80 - $3,271.20 Biweekly
$55,660.80 - $85,051.20 Annually
Job Type: Full-Time Location: 2120 Washington Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22204, Virginia       Please note - this announcement is for two positions in Emergency Services with the following work hours:
  • One Full time: This position will be working 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM Monday through Friday, with rotating on-call shifts; and
  • One PRN (on call): This position is required to work two 8 hour shifts, in office, and two on-call shifts per month.

The salary range above covers the Mental Health Therapist II position for a candidate who is hired without Virginia clinical licensure. The salary range for Mental Health Therapist II (Licensed) is $60,964.00 - $93,142.00.

Do you want to use clinical and problem solving skills to support individuals and their families through a mental health emergency? Join the Emergency Services team at Arlington County where clinicians provide crisis intervention, stabilization, and psychiatric services to individuals with imminent behavioral health crises while living, visiting, or working in Arlington County. These exciting positions are located in the Client Services Entry Bureau of the Behavioral Healthcare Division in the Department of Human Services. Direct services are provided on both an office-based and mobile outreach basis. Individuals typically treated are seriously mentally ill, dually diagnosed and suffer from severe psychiatric and/or substance abuse problems. The population served is ethnically diverse with a large percentage of non-English speakers.

Specific duties include:
  • Mental status assessments and hospital admission screening;
  • Crisis intervention and stabilization;
  • Short-term counseling;
  • Service coordination with multiple agencies (e.g., police, fire, hospital and emergency room staff, etc.) and;
  • Human services information/referral and follow-up.
Ability to function in a team environment to provide the best services possible. The employee must often drive to different locations within the County to meet clients.
 Selection Criteria: Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in a clinical discipline such as Counseling, Psychiatric Social Work, Psychology, Art Therapy, Psychiatric Nursing or other directly related clinical discipline, all of which required a clinical practicum involving diagnostic and treatment services, PLUS two years post Master's Degree experience providing clinical therapy and other mental health services, which included the application of diagnostic and treatment services.

Substitution: Directly related higher level clinical degree may substitute for the Master's Degree education requirement and one year experience. In the case of this substitution, qualifying work experience must have been gained after the acquisition of the directly related higher level clinical degree.

Desirable:
  • Virginia clinical license or license eligible as an LPC, LCSW, LCP or LMFT.
  • Experience providing mental health services to individuals with serious mental illness.
  • Experience providing emergency/crisis services.

 Special Requirements: Applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record.
