Job Title: TRADES WORKER II (MULTIPLE VACANCIES) Closing Date/Time: Continuous Salary: $13.62 - $20.82 Hourly
$1,089.60 - $1,665.60 Biweekly

Job Type: Full-Time Temporary Location: 2700 South Taylor Street, Arlington, Virginia       Arlington County's Department of Parks and Natural Resources is seeking to fill multiple, temporary trades worker II vacancies in the Park Service and Landscape area.  Employees will perform park maintenance and/or drive a landscape watering truck within a specified geographic neighborhood service area and/or at the direction of the area supervisor(s), work individually or within a team engaged in refuse collection, basic horticultural functions, street tree watering, park maintenance, and enhancement projects.

Specific duties include:
  • Using hand and power tools;
  • Driving a County pick-up or watering truck;
  • Cleaning restrooms, picnic pavilions, charcoal grills;
  • Repairing park equipment such as picnic tables, park benches, and assisting with repairing playground equipment;
  • Collecting trash and recycling;
  • Hauling materials such as recycling, plant material and tools in back of pick-up truck; and
  • Performing general ground maintenance.
Seasonal staff may work with full-time staff and/or assigned teams or work independently. 
Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions to include: exposure to noise, dust, grease, dirt and temperature extremes with extended periods of standing, walking, reaching, bending and lifting light to heavy objects and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.  Seasonal staff will be required to follow all applicable Federal, State, and County safety requirements when performing all duties.
 Selection Criteria: Minimum:  Six months' experience performing general labor duties.

Desirable:  Preference may be given to candidates with experience with one or more of the following:
  • Operating back pack blowers, string trimmers, and other 2 cycle equipment;
  • Significant experience working with hand tools;
  • Prior park maintenance experience;
  • Pruning trees;
  • Ability to read maps; and/or
  • Class A or B Commercial Driver's License.

 Special Requirements: The applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, and maintain, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
 Additional Information: Work Hours:  Core work hours may vary but are expected to be 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., five days per week, with exact days to be determined at time of hire.  Weekend and Holiday work is required on a weekly basis and will be scheduled as-needed (hours may vary).
