Sunrise Senior Living has an exciting opportunity for General Ledger Staff Accountant in McLean, VA.

RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities:

  • Record monthly journal entries for all non-accounts payable and non-accounts receivable cash transactions such as debt payments, intercompany reimbursements, lease payments, and miscellaneous check deposits
  • Calculate bank fee and interest income allocations to corporate and communities
  • Record assigned corporate G&A accruals including but not limited to: benefits plans, corporate audit, and expense accruals provided by other departments.
  • Prepare general ledger account reconciliations monthly for assigned accounts. Identify and resolve any reconciling items. Explain variances in balance sheet accounts to prior quarter end and prior year end.
  • Work with departments throughout Sunrise to correct missing or incomplete cash coding provided by other departments
  • Act as subject matter expert on bank reconciliations, including providing training to bank reconciliation preparers and helping solve problems when non-routine circumstances arise
  • Work closely with bank reconciliation preparers to record all items identified in monthly reconciliations
  • Prepare corporate audit schedules for assigned areas and ensure timely resolution of auditor questions/requests
  • Maintain checklists and other organizational tools to ensure all journal entries are recorded timely, accurately, and completely
  • Take initiative in implementing improvements in assigned areas
  • Assist Assistant Manager of General Ledger Accounting with other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

  • 4-Year Accounting or Finance degree required
  • 1-2 years minimum accounting experience required
  • Detail-oriented
  • Must be comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and analytical skills. Must be able to independently identify changes in patterns and develop understanding of how to adapt processes accordingly
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must
  • Ability to build positive relationship with others in the organization to build a network of “go-to” people to help resolve issues and act as a “go-to” resource for others
  • Extensive Excel experience required. Experience with the use of pivot tables, vlookup, and other data filtering/sorting and analysis tools a plus
  • PeopleSoft experience strongly preferred
