George Mason University Information Technology Services (ITS) seeks a high-energy Instructional Technologist to join its Learning Support Services, Online Learning Resources team. Responsibilities: The Instructional Technologist will support faculty and instructional designers in the exploration and usage of new learning technologies and provide advice on the best options to meet their learning outcomes/pedagogical goals. The incumbent will assist with integration of these tools into the learning management system (LMS) when applicable. Examples include collaboration tools, publisher integrations, mobile applications, WordPress, virtual reality, 3D printing, etc.
In addition, the Instructional Technologist will work with the Online Learning Resources Manager to develop assessment strategies to evaluate tool usage. The position will assist the LMS administrators in providing Blackboard support. Finally, the Instructional Technologist will be expected to reach out to departments and schools/colleges to promote usage of supported instructional technologies. Duties include: * Explore, research, evaluate, and advise on new and emerging instructional technologies and their effectiveness to improve and/or evaluate student learning; * Work with the instructional designers and learning management system (LMS) administrators to pilot new technologies; * Create and/or adapt professional development materials, documentation, and resources (e.g., self-paced online modules) to provide in person, hybrid, and online professional development resources for faculty; * Assist with the design and delivery of face-to-face instructional technology/design training; * Serve as a consultant to faculty, helping to discover ways to improve and evaluate student learning, and employ technology judiciously; * Provide end-user support to faculty, staff, and students for the learning management system and instructional technologies; and * Provide support and development of Mason mobile applications.
Required Qualifications: * Bachelorâ€™s degree in education, educational technology, or multimedia; or equivalent combination of education and experience; * Demonstrated professional work experience in providing direct support to faculty and instructors working to incorporate instructional technologies into courses in an academic setting; * Experience developing and delivering training and support services; * Experience with Blackboard or similar LMS; * Familiarity with graphic and web design elements appropriate for web-based instruction and learning; * Ability to produce rich media, screencasts and webinars; * Team player who can participate in collaborative instructional development processes and activities; and * Demonstrated written, presentation, and interpersonal communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications: * Graduate degree in instructional technology/design, e-learning or related field; * Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in instructional technology, online course delivery, and accessibility compliance; * Ability to author rich media using Captivate, Articulate, SoftChalk, etc.; * Possess an in-depth understanding of instructional technology issues related to learning in online, hybrid/blended, and traditional courses; * Demonstrated capacity to work across organizational units to create strong collaborative programs, maximize resources and enhance the work of faculty; and * Ability to work Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m., with the rare evening/weekend.
