Applied Research in Student Success Manager

Regular, Exempt, Full-Time, Pay Grade 2.4

The University of Maryland University College (UMUC) is seeking an individual to join the Center for Innovation in Learning and Student Success (CILSS) to direct applied research on student success initiatives. CILSS pilots state-of-the-art innovations in online learning designed to improve adult learners' higher education success. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in providing solutions that mitigate the risk of student failure in higher education and will contribute a range of implementation expertise including deep knowledge of student development theories to project guidance.

The Applied Research in Student Success Manager also plays an integral role in the research, planning, management, and communications of CILSS' incubator projects, including (but not limited to): creating retention focused pilots, evaluation of academic coaching, advising, tutoring, diagnostic assessment and other student success related initiatives. This individual will bring expertise in applied research for interventions aimed at supporting students across a broad spectrum of student services and academic experiences including academic coaching, advising, tutoring, diagnostic assessment, and the like.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Provide thought leadership in identifying promising next generation student success learning innovations that relate to the mission and climate for UMUC students.
  • Lead implementation of promising student success innovations through rapid prototyping and piloting processes.
  • Be an integral contributor on pilots and grants that focus on student success.
  • Provide guidance to UMUC's Advising unit regarding at-risk students. Work with advising to design and implement a plan for student success and maintain regular follow up.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for student success initiatives within the CILSS.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships with peers in related student success units to compliment capabilities.
  • Coordinate and/or administer related evaluative pre/post assessments.
  • Work cooperatively to provide appropriate data for purposes of reporting, institutional research, and institutional effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's in education, student affairs, student services, student development, learning sciences, institutional research and assessment, education, or closely related field.
  • Five to seven years of experience supporting student success in in higher education.
  • Five plus years managing academic projects on a diverse team in a complex higher education organization.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of theories and practices in student success with proven ability to apply in complex, difficult, and/or unprecedented situations.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
