The Institute of International Finance (IIF) is one of the world’s largest global associations of financial institutions with nearly 500 members in 75 countries. We provide economic and financial analysis to our members, serve as a forum for exchanging views and developing proposals on global regulatory issues; and represent our members from the private financial community in discussions with the public sector on global economic and financial policy issues.

The IIF’s Regulatory Affairs Department focuses on the development and articulation of industry positions on numerous global financial regulatory issues, including: cross-border resolution and related “too big to fail” issues; prudential capital and liquidity requirements; systemic risk regulation, industry risk management and governance practices; cross-border securities regulation; shadow banking; and international convergence on accounting and disclosure standards for the industry.

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Regulatory Counsel to contribute to the IIF’s advocacy activities with a particular focus on EU policy issues. The responsibilities of the position include leading the IIF work on EU policy and regulatory issues in the context of the global regulatory framework; lead development of global industry positions on a wide range of EU regulatory issues; spearheading and overseeing the work of a range of high-level industry committees and working groups; analyzing new regulatory initiatives with global implications by the EU Commission and EU Parliament, the EU Financial Authorities including the EBA, ESMA and EIOPA, the European Central Bank (including the Single Supervisory Mechanism), the European Single Resolution Authority; etc.; developing position papers, response documents and other analytical pieces in conjunction with the IIF team of policy advisors and analysts; and engaging with EU and national policymakers on behalf of the executive leadership at IIF member companies.

As Head of the IIF European Representative Office the position will also be responsible for developing and enhancing relationships with current and potential members in the region, with leading regional figures in the official sector, and with local and regional media. The position is based in London and reports to the Managing Director of Regulatory Affairs.

Successful candidates must have a full command of the EU regulatory framework for financial firms, the legal regime of the EU institutions, as well as strong technical and analytical skills. Working experience in dealing with EU affairs is also highly desired. Also required are: at least ten years of professional experience in a leading law firm, regulatory body, or regulatory consulting firm or directly relevant experience in a bank or related trade association; credibility and capacity to build strong relationships with regulators and executives both domestically and internationally; excellent oral and written communication skills, highly articulate, and fluent in English (and desirably other international languages); and a self-starter who is strongly motivated, proactive, and exercises effective judgment.
