SUMMER ADVOCACY INTERNSHIP (D.C.)
The Advocacy Office of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) in Washington, D.C. is looking for an intern interested in learning all aspects of the faith-based government relations field and connecting public policy with motivated ministries across the country. The ELCA is the largest Lutheran denomination in the U.S., with 3.8 million members in all 50 states, and is offering passionate and motivated students the opportunity to work in a fast-paced and strategic office focused on shaping public policy affecting communities throughout the world.
This internship is scheduled to begin in June as volunteer, full-time position (part-time is optional). It is essential that all applicants to this position have excellent writing/communication skills, demonstrate creativity, show interest in current events, and are not afraid to work on big assignments. As an intern you will have the opportunity to collaborate with our policy staff while working on real projects that will help us grow.
+ Attend hearings, take notes, and prepare reports for policy staff
+ Research policy issues and take part in congregational based organizing
+ Administrative duties, such as answering phone calls
+ Draft responses to ELCA constituents
+ Join meetings and ELCA events with policy staff
+ Social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
+ Assist with national advocacy campaigns
+ Write blogs on public policy and current events on Capitol Hill
Over the course of the internship, you will become extremely knowledgeable in online communication, managing multiple programs such as Knowlegis, Blackbaud Luminate, Microsoft Applications and Hoot Suite, as well as experience working with both religious and political leaders in a professional setting. You will also have ample opportunity to network with department leaders and other professionals in the non-profit and political field.
