Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology (Medical Technology), biological, chemical or related science; and satisfactory completion of a clinical laboratory educational rotation;
A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics -and- successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Technologist program.
A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry, one semester (one quarter) of mathematics, -and- one year of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology and/or Clinical Microscopy within the last ten years. Clinical rotations or professional experience must be under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology) or an appropriately board certified medical scientist and a certified medical technologist.
New Graduate to 5 years of experience in Clinical Laboratory Setting.
General knowledge of laboratory methodologies, interpretation of results, and quality assurance; Have completed a accredited internship in all areas of the laboratory that the employee is to be responsible for or have documented / traceable on the job training in an accredited laboratory. Ability to work in harmony with personnel to build team driven customer service; Demonstrates basic computer literacy; Demonstrates comprehension, skill and command of oral and written English language
Physical Requirements: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Visual Acuity: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
Environmental Conditions: The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
Reports to the Automated Laboratory Services Manager, designated member of the laboratory management team or designee (i.e. Supervisor or “Charge” Technologist); Assumes responsibility for work performed and works with minimal supervision required; Performs testing in accordance to established procedures and protocols; All work is subject to review as per departmental procedure prior to use in the diagnosis or treatment of patients.
