The Health Department of Fairfax County is a progressive public health leader providing services that promote and protect public health and the environment, and ensure residents' access to health services and information. The department operates public health clinics and adult day health care centers throughout the county. In addition, the department is responsible for general medical services to include the prevention and control of communicable disease, emergency preparedness and response to public health threats, homeless health care services and population health initiatives. Developing a competent public health workforce that reflects the diversity of the community is an integral part of the departments on-going work. To continue to excel in the quality of services it provides, the Health Department looks to enhance its stellar employee base with an innovative and creative leader to fill the Assistant Director of Patient Care Services position.

Responsibilities include:
  • Planning, facilitating, implementing and evaluating public health services in the general medical program of the Patient Care Services Division;
  • Identifying interrelationships across the organization;
  • Collaborating with a wide range of human service providers and non-profit stakeholders to develop programs which support the agency mission, vision and values;
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of public health and all programmatic areas
  • Developing and monitoring program budgets;
  • Conducting statistical analysis of health data to identify public health trends.
Employment Standards EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing with a master's degree in nursing, public health, public health administration, nursing administration, or nurse practitioner; plus six years of full-time equivalent post-licensure experience, four of which were in a public health setting and include two years in a supervisory capacity.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of current license to practice as registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry, and a check with the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature, however, employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs and carry up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to drive a vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. All duties perform with or without reasonable accommodations.
