Information Technology Specialist
Serves in the network operations center. The purpose of this position is maintaining and operating the unit’s computer systems and strategic networks. Charged with installing, supporting and maintaining servers, other computer and C4I systems, and planning for and responding to service outages and other problems. Additionally, will manage the development of the unit’s enterprise Information Technology (IT) goals, objectives, plans and policies to include identifying business requirements for new systems and developing basic application requirements utilizing systems analysis principles and methods in coordination with area experts. The work directly supports the C4 requirement for developing and maintaining the units IT Plan which involves defining the current business and IT environment and projecting future requirements for fiscal and manpower resources for IT personnel and training. Provides a full range of IT customer management, customer support, and liaison services to staff offices with IT application needs. Provides advice and assistance to customers, researches complex IT issues, and analyzes data to identify problematic trends or patterns in customer support requirements. Education BS/BA Degree
- Citizen of the United States.Three (3) years’ of operational experience in Information Technology or related activities. Possess an active Top Secret clearance.Shall be Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) or possess Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) Certification within 30 days of start of performance on the order.Possess Network+ Certification within 30 days of start of performance on the order.Possess Security+ CE Certification within 30 days of start of performance on the order.
- Shall maintain and manage the network server and systems infrastructure.Shall manage and troubleshoot Windows Active Directory, GPOs, and DNS.Shall manage Microsoft operating systems Windows Server 2008(R2) and Windows Server 2003.Shall manage and troubleshoot messaging protocols and operations with Microsoft Exchange 2003, Exchange 2010, and Exchange 2013 products.Shall manage Symantec backup exec and NetApp SNAP manager utilities.Shall provide support in the deployment and configuration of network systems.Shall design, optimize, and oversee the implementation of short and long term data networks initiatives.Shall provide comprehensive designs to address and compliment strategic network systems direction.Shall provide advanced trouble-shooting, implementation, and configuration of network hardware and software.Shall deploy vendor updates and security patches.Perform systems performance diagnoses and scalability assessment activities.Shall analyze functional problems and determines techniques /requirements feasible for expedited solutions.Shall perform network capacity planning and performance analysis to properly size network services.Shall perform systems performance diagnosis and scalability assessment activities.Shall compose and maintain network documentation such as topology diagrams, circuit/equipment inventories and configuration reports.Shall apply updates or changes to maintain security protection levels.Shall apply best practices and in compliance with security and DISA guidelines.Shall compose and maintain network documentation, such as topology diagrams, circuit/equipment inventories and configuration reports.Shall conduct cost analysis and evaluate vendor capabilities to provide the required products or services.Shall plan, install, operate and maintain VTC equipment across the area of operations, to provide optimized VTC capabilities across multiple networks, services, and levels of command.Shall work with the Area of Responsibility (AOR) VTC Coordinator in VTC support for the AOR CE, using knowledge of technology to enhance command and control processes.Shall work with the Network engineering and IA section to coordinate all VTC-related network changes well in advance of implementation.Shall coordinate with different services and agencies across time zones and nationalities.Shall have detailed knowledge of audio and video (A/V) concepts (i.e. how to set up and cable a room for VTC, where to put microphones to prevent feedback or audio issues, lighting, video, etc).Shall have knowledge and familiarity of DISA/DVSG and site licensing, including fluency in the functionality, capabilities, and operation.Shall have knowledge and familiarity of encryption devices (KIV-7, KG devices, TACLANE devices, etc) must know how to configure cryptographic devices to communicate with DISA/DVSG and other units. Must have knowledge of cryptographic fills, how to load an encryption device, how to verify the fill segments, and how to operate a Simple Key Loader (SKL).Shall have knowledge and familiarity with the different networks in use within United States Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A), and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Joint Coalition (IJC).Shall have detailed knowledge of deploying information systems, managing, and troubleshooting Windows Active Directory, Group Policy Object (GPOs), and Domain Name Service (DNS).Shall have detailed knowledge of Microsoft operating systems Windows 2008(R2) and Windows Server 2003.Shall have detailed knowledge of system deployment, management, and troubleshooting of messaging protocols and operations with Microsoft Exchange 2003, Exchange 2010, and Exchange 2012 products.Shall have detailed knowledge of backup technologies specifically Symantec backup exec and NetApp SIPR/NIPR Access Point (SNAP) manager utilities.Shall have knowledge and familiarity with reviewing and deploying vendor updates for security patches.Shall have knowledge and familiarity with server configuration and management tools (Microsoft System Center Operations manager (SCOM) and System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)).Shall have network troubleshooting skills and knowledge of networks.Shall have technical documentation skills.Knowledge of a variety of operating systems (ex. Windows 7, Windows 10, Server 2008, Server 2012 and VMWARE, etc.) on desktop and server.Skill in troubleshooting problems and implementing changes on multifaceted and interdependent computer platforms.Skill in modifying application code and devising software patches or workarounds, documenting problems and advising the responsible party on support issues.Knowledge of and skill in applying storage management practices, such as Storage Area Network (SAN) or Network Attached Storage (NAS); assignment of resources; and file management techniques.Skill in using performance tuning / monitoring tools and techniques that are used to optimize systems functionality in order to meet installation systems requirements.If the applicant has served in the military they must have received an honorable discharge as verified by a form DD-214 (U.S. Military).
