The Alice Ferguson Foundation (AFF) is an environmental educational organization on the Potomac River, focused on connecting people to the natural world, sustainable agricultural practices and the cultural heritage of their local watershed through education, stewardship and advocacy. As a leader of watershed stewardship, it models innovative practices, outreach, partnerships, programs and events that are replicated nationally.

TheAlice Ferguson Foundation (AFF) is seekinga driven, detail-oriented, and highly-motivated individual who islookingto expand their knowledge of the non-profit sector. Additionally, the ideal candidate should be passionate aboutenvironmentalstewardshipand excited to learn the ins and outsof nonprofit environmental conservation work in an invigorating, fast-pacedsetting. As a non-profit leader in environmental education, we expect the intern who fills this position to learn the field from top to bottom, so that upon completion ofthis program the individual isready to enter any fast-paced environmental education and/or non-profit organization. No prior internship or professional experience is required.However the applicant who fills this position must be highly attentive, able andwilling to learn quickly, and function efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must haveimpeccablewritten and verbalcommunication skills
  • Displays passion forenvironmental issues such as cleanenergy, and climate change prevention
  • Possessesexcellent analytical research skills, strong written and oral communication skills, as well as animmaculateattention to detail
  • Displays excellent interpersonal skills, maturity, and tact
  • Is thoughtful, organized, high collaborative with great attention
  • Has the ability to transform complicated subject matters and diverse source material into coherent, engaging, and accurate communications for a variety of audiences
  • Is capable of working independently, collaboratively, and without constant supervision
  • Demonstrates proficiency withMicrosoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Is a Business/Economics major (preferred,not required)

As and AFF intern you will be asked to:

  • Summarizereports, briefings, and hearings
  • Prepare research memos, fact sheets, and other documents
  • Review, vet, edit, and develop support materials and social media for program and campaigns
  • Conductresearch and data collection on a wide variety of energy policy topics
  • Assist in preparing grant applications and reports
  • Draft, edit, mail, and log donor correspondence including gift acknowledgements, renewals, andsolicitations
  • Help develop and define strategies for multi-platform giving campaigns
  • Provide administrative help to the team, as needed
  • Help maintain web platform, social media, and memberdatabase
  • Conduct outreach to various stakeholders
  • Draft articles, blog posts, and social media/web content
  • Research climate and energy related issues and topics

Applicant must:

  • Be able to work at least 3 days/week in Accokeek, MD;10am-5pm preferred
  • Have their own laptop computer
  • Be a college student in good academic standing
  • Have their own means of transportation
