Senior Content and Media Strategist
GENERAL SUMMARY Serves as the senior content and media strategist, working collaboratively with Media Relations and Marketing in the Department of Public Affairs and Marketing. Identifies news and compelling content within MedStar Washington Hospital Center, develops the appropriate supporting materials (i.e. blogs, newsletter content, videos, etc) and proactively disseminates and pitches the information to traditional, digital and social media outlets. Assures media relations efforts are coordinated, with news story placements, events and other newsworthy hospital activities to editors, journalists and bloggers. Provides content marketing support for key service lines. This role is familiar with concepts related to brand journalism and has an eye for multi-channel distribution of content with a consistent message. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing, or radio/TV/film is required. Master's degree or Accredited in Public Relations (APR) certification is preferred. PRIOR EXPERIENCE Minimum of seven years of experience as a journalist, public relations/communications professional, content development specialist/manager, or video producer who has demonstrated leadership ability. Experience in healthcare communications preferred. Knowledge of social media and brand journalism and understanding of analytics. Working knowledge of the marketing mix and the role of media as well as other forms of outreach such as direct mail, events, advertising, etc. CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION/LICENSURE Accredited in Public Relations (APR) from the Public Relations Society of America, Accredited in Public Relations (ABC) from the International Association of Business Communicators, or special certifications/training in social media, video production or digital communications are preferred.
