This position requires a motivated computer specialist to work independently, at an East-coast based field office, serving as the primary technical point of contact for all facets of corporate LAN and WAN administration and onsite upper support at the facility. The position supports daily operations, primarily during core business hours, after hours support may be required to accommodate maintenance or special projects. The candidate must be willing to be on call and available for immediate support requirements 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Limited travel may be required to satisfy training requirements.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Promptly responding to IT-related incidents and service requests and troubleshooting to resolve end-user problems
  • Operating, maintaining and administering computer networks and related computing environment including computer hardware, software, and related documentation in accordance with IT best practices
  • Performing data backups and disaster recovery operations
  • Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary
  • Planning, coordinating, and implementing network security measures to protect data, software and hardware
  • Interfacing with customer, technical staff, team members, and management to identify issues, negotiate changes, meet deadlines, markets services, and provide strong customer service both orally and in writing
  • Tracking and supporting periodic hardware and software upgrades
  • Working closely with support partners to promptly resolve incidents
 

 

General description for Principal Engineer, Systems:

 

Designs and defines system architecture for new or existing computer systems.

 1. Performs complex systems development and design work that may include logic design, I/O design, firmware development, model formulation, manufacturing and development cost projections, computer architecture analysis and design, and analog or digital systems engineering.

 2. Performs systems modeling, simulation, and analysis.

 3. Reviews completion and implementation of system additions and/or enhancements and makes recommendations to management and/or clients.

 4. Plans and directs upgrades of operating systems and designs systems enhancements.

 5. Develops documentation on new or existing systems.

 6. Develops and directs tests to ensure systems meet documented user requirements.

 7. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system problems.

 8. Provides system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance.

 9. Determines system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.

 10. Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced systems engineers and may have supervisory responsibilities.

 11. Serves as liaison with clients, participating in meetings to ensure client needs are met.

 12. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.

 13. Participates in special projects as required.

Education Bachelors Degree (desired) in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.

 

CompTIA Server+
10+ years of experience is required as an IT Specialist and System Administrator primarily focused on Windows based environment to include XP, Server 2000, and Server 2003 operating systems
2+ years using Microsoft SharePoint
Critical Thinking skills necessary in order to solve complex IT issues.

Complex problem solving skills are crucial

Qualifications 8-10 years of related systems engineering experience.

 

CompTIA Server+

  • 10+ years of experience is required as an IT Specialist and System Administrator primarily focused on Windows based environment to include XP, Server 2000, and Server 2003 operating systems
  • 2+ years using Microsoft SharePoint
  • Critical Thinking skills necessary in order to solve complex IT issues.
  • Active listening
  • Complex problem solving skills are crucial
  • Ability to identify and resolve moderately complex windows-based access problems
  • A working knowledge of the Windows Operating Systems, specifically XP and Windows 7
  • Ability to establish/delete user accounts and submit requests for access
  • Ability to troubleshoot user problems and system anomalies
  • Ability to maintain customer IT hardware/equipment to include CD and DVD writers, printers, switch boxes, etc as needed
  • Ability to maintain general knowledge of IT industry, trends, and developments
