Primary Purpose of the Position:

This position is responsible for gathering and defining the requirements to build complex applications that will support Intelsat's satellites and products.  Act as owner and project lead for assigned applications.  Responsible for learning and clearly articulating customer needs and translating them into detailed process and tool requirements.  Focus is on Intelsat's inventory and engineering applications to improve the customer experience.


Critical Responsibilities:

  • Overall accountability for Business vision, scope & execution as well as providing day to day direction to all Business stakeholders & SMEs.
  • Ownership and accountability for Business deliverables - active oversight, input and sign-off, as well as ownership to communicate any impact to the affected Business areas.
  • Lead complex projects (~1-24 months) to update Intelsat inventory and engineering applications (~80%).   Upcoming projects could include updates to our current (interim) applications, definition of our next generation applications platform (APS), add-on capabilities for our next generation application platform, and updates to the Intelsat Customer Portal.
  • Quickly learn existing and new satellite/ground technologies, Intelsat business drivers, and user roles/responsibilities to determine needed changes to applications. Document, prioritize, and coordinate application changes with IS and user community.
  • Distill multiple viewpoints/requirements into single vision.  Create materials that drive conversations and create consensus. Provide insights into potential process and procedure efficiencies.
  • Gather and document application requirements working with IS to solidify implementations and document decisions.
  • Create testing plans.  Write User Acceptance Testing (UAT) plans and coordinate testing and business resources to accept delivered functionality.
  • Create training plans and materials.  Coordinate with internal-team and other business resources to determine training needs.  Coordinate with available resources to create and deliver training programs and materials.
  • Provide recommendations as Subject Matter Expert (SME) representing business engineering groups for additional projects as needed.
  • Provide support on existing and new tools (~20%).  Provide 2nd tier application support to both internal and external customers.  Coordinate with IT and other groups to escalate and resolve issues as needed. 


Important Responsibilities:

  • Provide status updates on projects to Project Management and oversight committees. 
  • Provide visibility of application roadmap and upcoming features to user communities.
  • Support internal team initiatives to improve, standardize, and document process and procedures. 


Required Experience:

  • This position requires ITAR access; all candidates must be US Citizens or Permanent Residents.
  • Bachelor's Degree with at least five years of experience in a technically focused role in the communications or high tech industry.
  • Experience gathering information and distilling competing visions to define requirements highly desired.
  • Experience in satellite telecommunications with understanding and knowledge of satellite RF link budgets is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated aptitude to quickly learn proprietary systems and software programs.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism and maturity in dealing with and seeking creative solutions to problems.
  • Ability to translate and present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently and effectively manage competing priorities and multiple projects.
  • Facilitate and drive decision making across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional extended hours based on department activity.
  • Effective communicator in both written and spoken English.
