Electrical Power Engineer
Summary: Works in a tactical capacity for engineering Department of State Post and Embassy power solutions and infrastructure directly supporting Technical Security Systems (TSS). Engineering and responsibilities span the System Development Lifecycle (SDLC), and the incumbent will collaborate with technical and subject matter experts to address power solutions for existing systems; as well as for leading efforts to chart long-term worldwide solutions tailored to local conditions, mission, and other considerations. Day-to-day this position works as a key member within the Infrastructure Engineering, Documentation and Support (EDS) team. The chief task is to develop and support power solutions for all technical security systems (TSS) within the responsibilities assigned to the Technology Development Branch. Systems developed/supported are instrumental for providing safe and secure diplomatic facilities around the globe. The performance of these duties and responsibilities takes place applying the TDB Engineering Process which is very similar to the System Engineering Lifecycle Process. The process assures that systems are identified through a defined market research process, narrowed-down to viable candidates for rigorous evaluation and testing, tested with conclusions that withstand scrutiny, and implemented in a predictable consistently successful manner by the field.
- Acts as primary technical liaison with customers and sponsors, to include the preparation and presentation of high-level technical information.Analyzes, evaluates, and plans methods of approach for projects and organizes means to achieve the solution of problems.Plans and executes laboratory research and/or the development and/or evaluation of power systems and components.Analyzes the theoretical bases and principles which apply and the empirical test procedures to be used.Conducts investigations or tests pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials, or processes and investigates possible applications of results.Interprets and evaluates test data and results of investigations and develops recommendations.Recommends necessary corrections in technical analyses and design to ensure successful project completion.Specifies equipment, materials and suppliers required for completion and implementation of projects.Evaluates vendor capabilities to provide or build required services, supplies, or equipment.Coordinates with assigned staff.May serve as technical team or task leader.Demonstrates creative ability through design skills, problem solving or technical papers and articles.Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.Participates in special projects as required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electric Engineering, from ABET accredited institution.Master’s Degree preferred.
