Spring Internship for Criminal Justice Reform Organization
The Coalition for Public Safety, together with its partners, is the largest national effort working to make our criminal justice system smarter, fairer and more cost effective at the federal, state and local levels. In an unprecedented way, the Coalition brings together the nation's most prominent conservative and progressive organizations to pursue a comprehensive set of federal, state and local criminal justice reforms to reduce our jail and prison populations and associated costs; end the systemic problems of over criminalization and over incarceration - particularly of low-income communities and communities of color; ensure swift and fair outcomes for both the accused and victim; and make communities safe by reducing recidivism and breaking down barriers faced by those returning home after detention or incarceration.
The Coalition for Public Safety, in conjunction with it's sister organization, the U.S. Justice Action Network, is currently recruiting students for an unpaid spring internship. Interns will work closely with Coalition staff in our Washington, DC office. He/she will assist with research and data collection, conduct legislative analyses, attend Capitol Hill hearings and briefings, track legislation, and assist in event coordination, among other tasks. This internship provides a unique opportunity to engage with criminal justice thought leaders from across the political spectrum, and observe bipartisan consensus building in action. Candidates should possess a strong interest in criminal justice policy and be comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment. *Start and end dates are flexible.
