Senior Scientist I - BDRD
The Genomics Department in the Biological Defense Research Directorate (BDRD) of the Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) has a mission to apply bioinformatics and cutting edge, high-throughput technologies such as genotypic and phenotypic expression profiling, biomarker characterization, bacteriophage science, etc. to the study of infectious diseases, biodefense, and enhanced global disease surveillance for early pathogen detection and response. We are seeking a Senior Scientist with the following experience: 1) Practical knowledge of basic and applied research, including experimental design and methods, and must have demonstrated the ability to perform original and competent research2) Ability to manager a research program, including training of other scientists, technicians, and support personnel3) Developing methods for the detection of biological weapons4) Extensive knowledge of Apple OSX environments, UNIX environments, PERL programming language, various genome assembly software packages, and shell scripting Education Ph.D in virology, microbiology, molecular biology, or biochemistry is highly desired. Practical post-doctoral research in virology and bacteriology is considered essential. Bachelors Degree in a scientific discipline. Masters Degree preferred. Qualifications Must have 5-8 years of related experience in genomics, microbiology, virology, and bacteriology, the practice of bioinformatics, and the development of bioinformatic platforms and software development. Must be able to pass all criteria for Top Secret Security clearance.
