The Genomics Department in the Biological Defense Research Directorate (BDRD) of the Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) has a mission to apply bioinformatics and cutting edge, high-throughput technologies such as genotypic and phenotypic

expression profiling, biomarker characterization, bacteriophage science, etc. to the study of infectious diseases, biodefense, and enhanced global disease surveillance for early pathogen detection and response. We are seeking a Linux systems administrator with the following experience:

 

 1) Operating systems: Linux (RHEL, CentOS, SLES, Mac OS X).

 2) Basic systems administration: Linux installation, maintenance, upgrade, backup, NFS, TCP/IP networking.

 3) Experience with Linux/UNIX server and cluster hardware setup and configuration, performance monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting.

 4) Experience working with highly complex system implementations and organizational processes.

 5) Experience with parallel and clustered file systems, MySQL, and SGE.

 6) Experience with LDAP, Apache HTTPd, resync, MySQL, and SGE.

 7) Experience programming in Python (preferred), Ruby, Perl, or Java.

 8) Familiarity with bioinformatics and computational biology.

 9) Prior involvement or interest in bioinformatics of human/cancer genomics is preferred. 10) Experience with DoD network systems is preferred.

Education Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.

Qualifications 2-5 years of directly related experience in systems administration and analysis.

 

Must be able to pass all criteria for a Secret security clearance.
