The Genomics Department in the Biological Defense Research Directorate (BDRD) of the Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) has a mission to apply bioinformatics and cutting edge, high-throughput technologies such as genotypic and phenotypic

expression profiling, biomarker characterization, bacteriophage science, etc. to the study of infectious diseases, biodefense, and enhanced global disease surveillance for early pathogen detection and response. We are seeking a Biomedical Technician with experience to complete the following tasks:


                 1) Performs laboratory procedures, testing, research activities, and other tasks in fields such as biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, virology, bacteriology, molecular or cell biology, veterinary medicine, or other scientific discipline

                      2) Plans and accomplish goals, participates in or leading development of research work plans and proposals under the direction of senior scientists.

             3) Reads, understands, and executes techniques, procedures, and plans to meet requirements of quality standards, national standards of research technical accuracy, other relevant written guidelines, and timelines prescribed by the research plan

                      4) Records all laboratory procedures and research project data, data analyses, and analytical conclusions of analyses in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures

                      5) Performs a variety of scientific and administrative tasks

                      6) Specialized skills may be required, including but not limited to preparing and running high-throughput sequencing samples, PCR, assay optimization,  sequencing and bioinformatic analysis, quality assurance, and good laboratory practice

                      7) May participate in oversight of laboratory biosafety requirements, in coordination with laboratory supervisor, director, Investigators, or other relevant staff

Education Bachelors Degree in biology, or relevant biomedical sciences.

Qualifications 2-5 years of related experience in microbiology and scientific research.
