Designs and defines system architecture for new or existing computer systems.

 1. Performs expert-level systems development and design work that may include logic design, I/O design, firmware development, model formulation, manufacturing and development cost projections, computer architecture analysis and design, and analog or digital systems engineering.

 2. Performs systems modeling, simulation, and analysis.

 3. Acts as a subject-matter expert to multiple tasks and/or programs.

 4. Reviews completion and implementation of system additions and/or enhancements and makes recommendations to management and/or clients.

 5. Plans and directs upgrades of operating systems and designs systems enhancements. 6. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system problems.

 7. Determines system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.

 8. Serves as a technical team or task lead.

 9. Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced systems engineers and may have supervisory responsibility.

 10. Serves as liaison with clients, participating in meetings to ensure client needs are met.

 11. May provide expertise to multiple projects and tasks.

 12. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.

 13. Participates in special projects as required.

Education 1. Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.

 2. Masters degree preferred.

Qualifications 15-20 years of related systems engineering experience.

 The primary responsibility for this Windows Desktop Engineering position is working with management team and engineering and operational resources to create wand deliver enterprise desktop OS solutions in support of the customer mission. 
Working under minimal supervision the selected candidate will work with a technical group on projects from reviewing requirements to ensure system compatibility for optimal system performance; collaborate with business users to discuss requirements; perform current state system analysis; write functional and technical specifications of current state systems, provide weekly status reports regarding system engineering and integration initiatives. 
The successful candidate will have proven experience with establishing integrated project team structure and assignments and experience leading, directing and managing enterprise IT system development/engineering efforts, tasking, and schedules through work breakdown structure and program planning.
The duties of the position include but not limited to, analyzing the existing Windows Desktop Infrastructure and developing an adaptable and scalable design to meet the needs of the mission customer. Position may also include designing an upgrade path from existing versions of Windows desktop to Windows 10 (and beyond) across the enterprise, while maintaining operational availability along the way. 
Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, System Engineering and 13 years experience or related field and 16 years of professional IT experience within Windows desktop, Windows server, Active directory, including design, management, troubleshooting, group policy, etc. 
• Demonstrated hands on knowledge and experience building and deploying automated workstation builds and applications leveraging Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) across an enterprise infrastructure with environments that are logically separated. 
• Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing infrastructure optimization technology roadmap, and implementing infrastructure performance issues
• Work with developers / engineers across varied disciplines to implement customer and system requirements; design a solution that meets the current requirements and is scalable for future needs 
• Flexible: Able to flourish in an environment where approach to mission solutions changes frequently; adaptable to customer constraints and changes in focus/direction

*Virtual Desktop Infrastructure to include but not limited to XEN desktop and VM View 
*Ability to facilitate discussion among people with differing backgrounds and opinions that lead to a consensus
*Researches, designs, develops and/or modifies enterprise wide systems and/or applications software
