Initiates and executes scientific research and/or development studies; Analyzes problems and applies theoretical techniques to develop solutions.

1. Performs basic scientific work requiring application of standard techniques; procedures and criteria.

2. Analyzes problems and applies theoretical techniques to develop solutions.

3. Performs laboratory research.

4. Analyzes and organizes technical data and reports into summaries for management or customer review.

5. Prepares technical reports; manuals; and procedures.

6. Defines and describes laboratory tests to be performed.

7. Participates in test programs and prepares reports of test results.

8. Maintains records; prepares reports; and conducts analysis and investigation.

9. Maintains current knowledge or relevant technologies as assigned.

10. Participates in special projects as required. Education Bachelors Degree in a scientific or related discipline. Qualifications 0-2 years of related experience in scientific research; analysis and/or engineering.

Contractual requirements: Two (2) years of experience in material characterization; testing and evaluation.

Provide technical expertise to test and characterize non-metallic materials; including polymers; ceramics; adhesives; syntactic materials; rubber; seals fibers; gaskets; insulations; foams; composites; signature tiles and signature coatings to determine basic properties and to assess suitability for use in Naval environments. Perform quality assurance testing of non-metallic materials and shall evaluate the compatibility of non-metallic materials with coatings including paint. Experience with Young's Modulus; Bulk Modulus; LabView and MATLAB a plus. Machining services to sectioning blanks and preparing test specimens utilizing techniques such as water jet cutting; saw cutting; and/or milling also a bonus.
