  • Provides medical care to assigned patients and leads clinical research efforts at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic OR Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM).
  • Directs and provides oversight of research; clinical; and education related activities at the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) site.
  • Develops; implements; and maintains partnership with Patients; other health care providers; researchers; and community resources as applicable.
  • Abides by all applicable regulations with regard to utilization review and quality improvement directives including; but not limited to; in-service training; peer review; performance improvement; records maintenance; performance evaluations; and release of information.
  • Assists other contract service providers; military commanders and community agencies in the development and implementation of health programs at the installation and or clinic level.
  • Participates; as appropriate; in departmental quality assurance (QA) programs and adhere to all safety and patient data regulations at all times.
  • Attends and presents at conferences; meetings; trainings for professional development and presentation of research findings or patient care reports; as appropriate.
  • Supervises contract staff training; promotes development with immediate and direct feedback; and completes performance evaluations for contract clinical; research; and education staff working under this contract.
  • Collaborates with physicians in other medical specialties on cases involving complicated and multi-faceted problems.
  • Oversees the design and execution of clinical research initiatives; and their compliance with all regulatory bodies.
  • Supports traumatic brain injury (TBI) research through development and implementation of research studies in collaboration with research professionals locally and nationally.
  • Ensures effective communication and knowledge sharing with DVBIC research colleagues and scientific team.
  • Contributes to the preparation of research manuscripts for publication in the area of TBI; and present papers at scientific meetings; as possible.
  • Serves as a liaison between DVBIC nationally; locally; and the Command.
  • Collaborates with Program Manager and monitors contract program activities (e.g. staff training and performance; recruitment and hiring; and planning). Examine; diagnose; and treat of ailments and diseases IAW with MTF policy and acceptable practices.
  • Prepare and review case histories and obtain data through interviews of patients.
  • Examine patients and determine required x-ray examinations; clinical laboratory tests; and diagnostic test to assist in determining the rehabilitative needs of the patient.
  • Interpret tests results and evaluate findings.
  • Prescribe specific medication(s); diet; treatment modalities and oversee ancillary personnel in patient care and rehabilitative treatment
  • Initiate and oversee rehabilitation services. Confer with the appropriate specialist as necessary to ensure the continuity of patient care.
  • Work under the general professional direction of the Department Chief to which they are assigned.
  • Provide consultation services for members of the MTF staff for purposes of specialty area training. As required; the contracted will serve in a teaching capacity to staff members assigned to the MTF and ambulatory clinics.
  • Serves as consultant to the Flight Commander and Flight Chief on clinically related matters.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and receiving consultations and laboratory work of specific patients. The contractor shall complete medical charting within 72 hours of patient visit IAW with Joint Commission (JC) guidelines.
  • When necessary; provide a Statement on Evaluation of Fitness IAW AR-40-501 and provide timely completion of Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) dictation and paperwork.
   Education
  • Physician will have successfully completed an Undergraduate Program; Medical School (M.D. or D.O.); internship; and residency program.
  • Must have and maintain commensurate board certification.
  Must have and maintain a current license to practice in any one of the 50 states; the District of Columbia; Puerto Rico; Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands; or any US territory that allows for the independent practice of clinical services. This license must be current and unrestricted (not subject to restriction pertaining to the scope; location; or type of practice ordinarily granted to other applicants for similar licenses in granting jurisdiction).

Qualifications
  • 5-10 years practicing as a physician required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of TBI experience preferred.
  • Prior experience within the DoD/VA systems of care strongly preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen. / Must be able to obtain a National Security Clearance.
