Provides Outside Plant installation, maintenance and troubleshooting support of voice, video, and/or data communications networks in deployed locations


- Responsible for installations, including racking, cabling, bonding, grounding, testing, troubleshooting and certification of Outside Plant cabling. Performs installation, termination, labeling, testing, troubleshooting and certification of all associated cabling components, to include but is not limited to, CAT 3, CAT 5, CAT 5e, and CAT 6 twisted pair cable; single- or multi-strand multi-mode or single-mode fiber optic cabling


- Responsible for performing copper and fiber tests with OTDRs, light source and meters to US Government standards.


- Responsible for monitoring, communicating and performing corrective actions to isolate and repair problems affecting any  or fiber related equipment. Install demarcation enclosures, switches and other telecom equipment.


- Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned


- Participates in special projects as required

  Education - Associates Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.


- Must have a valid US state driver’s license and excellent driving record  


- Must complete customer and GDIT deployment training certification requirements  




- Directly related outside plant work


- Work outdoors in all types of weather


- Working with or having served in a US military environment is preferred


- Applicable IT industry-recognized DoD 8570 certification preferred


- ITIL v3 Foundations


- Equivalent combination of technical certifications, training, or work experience can be substituted for degree requirements on a case-by-case basis

Qualifications 3+ years of experience in outside plant cabling installation and repairs.


- Demonstrated proficiency in pulling cable, terminating and testing copper and fiber-optic cable


- Ability to design, coordinate, install, test and document infrastructure components (e.g. cable, circuits, fiber, pipe and conduit)


- Strong communication skills (written & oral)


- Ability to deal with customers at all levels in stressful situations


- Ability to prioritize and dynamically re-task response and recovery actions as situations change


- Ability to work as part of a small team of technicians through upgrade, configuration and maintenance of cabling solutions on different classification networks


- Read and update existing building blue prints and cabling diagrams


- Visual and aural acuity to operate a variety of standard test and measurement equipment


Unique/Additional Requirements - Secret Clearance required


- This position is located at Bagram, Afghanistan and includes travel to remote in-country locations as well as other locations in Europe and SouthWest Asia on an as-required basis


- This position supports both hazardous and non-hazardous duty locations


- Must be cleared for OCONUS deployment by the CONUS Replacement Center (CRC) at Fort Bliss, TX


- Applicable IT industry-recognized DoD 8570 certification preffered


- This position requires shift and weekend work


- The work is typically performed in austere work environs, which requires proper safety precautions; work will require some physical effort in the climbing ladders and utility poles up to 40 feet, handling of ladders, boxes, equipment, materials or tools up to 100 lbs.
