Provides installation, maintenance and troubleshooting support of voice, video, and/or data communications networks in deployed locations

  • The installation, termination, labeling, testing, troubleshooting and certification of all associated cabling components, to include but is not limited to, CAT 3, CAT 5, CAT 5e, and CAT 6 twisted pair cable; single- or multi-strand multi-mode or single-mode fiber optic cable primarily within government facilities
  • Monitors and responds to hardware and software problems utilizing a variety of hardware and software testing tools and techniques
  • May provide guidance and work leadership to less-experienced technicians
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned
  • Participates in special projects as required 
  •  Ability to work on ladders up to and beyond 15 feet
Education Associates Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.

  • Must possess demonstrated manual dexterity to lift and carry loads up to 40 pounds
  • Must complete customer and GDIT deployment training certification requirements  
Desired:

  • BICSI installation certification is strongly preferred
  • Multi-vendor equipment experience is strongly preferred
  • Working with or having served in a US military environment is preferred
  • Applicable IT industry-recognized DoD 8570 certification preferred
  • ITIL v3 Foundations
  • Equivalent combination of technical certifications, training, or work experience can be substituted for degree requirements on a case-by-case basis
Qualifications 3-5 years of experience in cabling installation.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in pulling cable, terminating and testing copper and fiber-optic cable
  • Ability to design, coordinate, install, test and document infrastructure components (e.g. cable, circuits, fiber, pipe and conduit)
  • Strong communication skills (written & oral)
  • Ability to deal with customers at all levels in stressful situations
  •  Ability to prioritize and dynamically re-task response and recovery actions as situations change
  • Ability to work as part of a small team of technicians through upgrade, configuration and maintenance of cabling solutions on different classification networks
  • Read and update existing building blue prints and cabling diagrams
Unique/Additional Requirements - TS/SBI SCI Clearance required

  • This position is located at Little Creek, VA and includes travel to OCONUS locations such as Europe and SouthWest Asia on an as-required basis
  • This position supports both hazardous and non-hazardous duty location
  • Applicable IT industry-recognized DoD 8570 certification required
  • This position requires shift and weekend work
  • The work is typically performed in austere work environs, which requires proper safety precautions; work will require some physical effort in the handling of boxes, equipment, materials or tools
