The Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Engineer shall perform design, implementation, and configuration of virtualized and physical IT architectures supporting virtualized desktop environments.    


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    Participates as an infrastructure engineering representative on engineering teams for the design; development; implementation and/or integration of desktop virtualization environments.Design, install, configure and manage VMware virtualization environment components (vSphere, vSAN for Horizon, Horizon, ThinApp, App Volumes).Ensure virtualization systems are compliant within required security standardsDevelop and maintain O&S Standard Operating Procedures for VMware desktop virtualization environmentDevelop and implement testing strategies and document results.Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems with the virtualization environment including Microsoft and Linux O/SSupports security planning; assessment; risk analysis; and risk managementDevelop server/system migration strategies and processes for virtualized and non-virtualized desktop environments.Interacts with the customer and other project team membersPerforms system or network designs that encompass multiple enclaves; to include those with differing data protection/classification requirements

 Possibility of up to 20% travel

Education 1. Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.

 2. Masters Degree preferred.



Qualifications 10-15 years of related systems engineering experience.


Security clearance required for employment.


VMware Certified Professional (VCP) in Data Center Virtualization (DCV) and/or Desktop and Mobility (DTM) are desired.

  • Demonstrated experience with VMware products and technologies (vSphere, vSAN for Horizon, Horizon, ThinApp, App Volumes).
  • Experience developing, optimizing and hardening desktop operating system master images, gold-disks, or templates.
  • Demonstrated understanding of desktop virtualization concepts and strategies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of application virtualization and application streaming concepts and strategies
  • Prior experience delivering VDI to Thin Client or Zero Client devices.
  • Demonstrated experience with software package/binary deployment (XenApp; ThinApp; AppV; SCCM)
  • Experience managing and securing Microsoft Windows Server.
  • Experience with Windows Failover Clustering and SQL Always On administration.
  • Understanding of the user logon process in VDI and Windows experience with configuration and management of user profiles in a hosted Shared and non-persistent VDI environment.
  • Experience configuring Microsoft Group Policy in a VDI environment.
  • Experience integrating and supporting Microsoft Windows 7 & 10 in a VDI environment
  • Experience using PowerShell scripting to manage Windows Servers and applications.
  • Experience managing and maintaining hypervisor hosts in support of VDI.
  • Demonstrated understanding of server virtualization concepts.
  • Prior experience deploying blade and rack mounted server product sets.
  • Demonstrated understanding of block and file-based storage system concepts.
  • Prior experience with storage-area-network based replication products and technologies.
  • Prior experience deploying backup and recovery products.
  • Demonstrated understanding of layer 2/3 networking technologies and concepts.
  • Demonstrated understanding of storage-area-network products and technologies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of backup, recovery, and replication technologies for virtualized environments.
  • Prior experience creating documentation for server virtualization environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and refine server virtualization requirements for customer environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with customers and external teams to gather critical project information.
  • Knowledge and experience with scripting and programming (PowerShell, Python, PERL, JavaScript, Visual Basic, etc.) are highly preferred.
  • Experience with Application Delivery Controller (ADC) and Global and Server Load Balancing in support of VDI environments.
  • Understanding of DNS, DHCP, and Certificate Management in support of VDI environments.
