Work assignments will be focused on the land development process providing exposure to a variety of transportation disciplines including traffic operations, road construction, transit, transportation demand management (TDM), and pedestrian/bicycle that will have application to a diverse and complex land development caseload. Reviews and analyzes the transportation characteristics of development proposals and identifies and pursues measures to address network impacts; leads interactions with staff, the development community, citizens, advisory groups, task forces, and elected officials; and prepares written reports and public presentations that are related to these assignments. Supervise professional staff. Fairfax County faces significant transportation challenges and is seeking innovative solutions. This is an opportunity to work on a range of cutting edge land use and transportation initiatives, including design, programming, and engineering.

Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field; plus four years of experience related to transportation planning.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong background in land use and transportation planning. Professional license in engineering or planning. Ideal candidate will have experience in: evaluating transportation network impacts of land use proposals, negotiation skills, coordinating with local, state, and federal government organizations; working with the public and officials on transportation issues; GIS and traffic impact analysis, strong analytical skills, excellent oral and written communications skills, ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects and assignments and establish priorities, and ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is generally sedentary. However, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items under 25 pounds in weight. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
