Requirements

Clinical Research Nurse - Hematology and Oncology

The Clinical Research Nurse as research nurse for clinical trials using investigational agents for the hematology and oncology group and is responsible for patient safety, data management, and protocol compliance. Reporting to the Research Nursing Supervisor, the Clinical Research Nurse has duties include but are not limited to:

Study Participation

  • Ascertains patient eligibility for clinical trial.
  • Assists members of the interdisciplinary team in the assessment, development, management, and coordination of care across the continuum of care (outpatient, inpatient, and home) including triage of phone calls, symptom management, and proactive patient communication.
  • Supports, evaluates, and documents patient adherence to protocol and safety.
  • Assesses, identifies, and prioritizes clinical information for medical team for patients enrolled on clinical trials.
  • Provides patient education about clinical trial treatment, possible side effects, and required testing.
  • Administers financial management for patients participating in clinical trials.

Data Management

  • Collaborates with data management to assure that the documentation for the clinical trial is completed accurately and on time.
  • Serves as liaison among staff, IRB, physicians, pharmaceutical companies, and federal agencies requiring data.

Administration

  • Participates in site initiation visits, monitoring visits, and audits.
  • Coordinates with protocol office regarding regulatory affairs.
  • Schedules clinical trial in-service for appropriate staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
  • DC certification as Registered Nurse
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • At least 3 years - preferably 5 years - of oncology experience
  • Preference for knowledge of clinical research, computer applications, and research process
  • Proficient computing skills
