The Development Coordinator position is based at Conservation International (CI)-HQ in Arlington and primarily supports the direct fundraising efforts of a Major Gift Development professional and provides support for Annual Giving efforts. This position reports to the Southern CA Regional Development Director, who is based in Los Angeles. The position is one of a team of development coordinators who provide overall support to the Major Gifts Team.  The Coordinator will provide a high level of support that includes occasionally serving as a liaison with development staff, donors and non-development CI staff. The Coordinator needs to be resourceful, to use discretion in his/her communications and to work independently.


    Enter and update donor & prospects data for the fundraising professionals this position supports in the development database, Raiser's Edge, and generate and review regular reports reporting out on data. Coordinate donor reports with programmatic and Foundation Relations staff; draft correspondence to donors; help identify opportunities for specific donor stewardship and outreach around CI priority programs. Draft thank-you notes and correspondence as needed and providing phone support to donors as needed. Support events team for donor cultivation and stewardship events help in the region through providing invitation lists, designing and producing invitations (mail and email), tracking responses, provide logistical support at event and implementing post event follow-up. Provide baseline research for new regional prospects and work with Operations team to identify new prospects within existing donor pool. Handle travel arrangements and process and submit expenses for fundraisers’. Prepare small in-house mailings for Major Gifts and Annual Giving teams.

    This position is located in Arlington, VA Typical office environment. Travel is expected once or twice per year. Infrequent heavy lifting is expected (books, annual reports, etc.).


    Successful candidates should have a minimum of three years’ experience working in the nonprofit sector, preferably in fundraising and development. Command of Microsoft suite of programs. Strong oral and written communication skills. Self-responsibility will be a must.
