Technical Security Specialist (Component Detection)

This position is located in Technical Countermeasures Division (TCD) of the Security Services Bureau (SSB), United States Capitol Police (USCP). The SSB is responsible for the supervision and delivery of security surveys of congressional offices; design, installation and maintenance of physical security systems; and Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM) inspections. The TCD provides TSCM services for the Legislative Branch, including the office space on the Capitol Complex and at Congressional state and district offices. The purpose of this position is to identify and neutralize technical penetrations and vulnerabilities that could potentially be used to compromise sensitive and national security information for the United States Congress.

Qualifying experience for the CP-10 level includes one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the CP-9/GS-11 level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position being filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as experience that includes work which requires the applicant to identify and neutralize technical penetrations and vulnerabilities that could be used to compromise sensitive and/or national security information; and to perform advanced technical surveillance functions utilizing a wide variety of component and tamper detection equipment and devices. Specialized experience may also include work which requires the candidate to select, design and maintain component detection equipment and/or develop processes and procedures for its use.
