Montgomery College, Office of Information Technology, located in Rockville, MD, has need for a full-time, IT Security Analyst, S03893
in the Office of Information Technology Department. The normal work schedule is 8:30-5:00. On call duties will be required.

 

Job Summary:

 

Ensure Montgomery Colleges information systems and network are secure.  This includes protecting the college against hackers and cyber-attacks, as well as monitoring network traffic and server logs for activity that seems unusual. Additionally, the analyst is responsible for finding vulnerabilities in the computer networks and creating recommendations for how to minimize these vulnerabilities. The network security analyst investigates security breaches, develops strategies for any security issues that arise, and utilizes the help of firewalls, IDS, IPS and antivirus software to maintain security.



Duties include, but are not limited to:



  • Conducting network and system monitoring using a variety of tools, including,

    • Physical and virtual/host based firewalls.
    • IPS/IDS
    • Load balancers and VPN.
  • Administering and configuring

    • Physical and virtual/host based firewalls.
    • IPS/IDS
    • Load balancers and VPN.
    • Wireless NAC.
  • Configuring multi-factor authentication services for applications such as VPN.
  • Evaluating proposed/new/existing IT systems to determine if they meet current security standards, introduce vulnerabilities, and what measures must be taken to mitigate the exposure.




Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college/university with course work in IT security and computer science or a related field and/or any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Three years working experience in various aspects of Information Technology as an analyst/programmer or similar professional level, including systems administration, networking and/or application development and information security.
  • Three years working experience in cybersecurity as an analyst or engineer.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and related network protocols.
  • Experience with incident response, log management, analysis, and monitoring; VPNs, virtualization, firewalls, and IDS/IPS systems is expected
  • Knowledge of commonly-accepted information security principles and practices, as well as vulnerabilities, hacks, disaster recovery planning, etc.
  • Working understanding of database systems, application system development and installation/implementation processes
  • Experience in developing and implementing procedure and policy documents.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the following security tools:  F5 BIG-IP, Checkpoint, Trend Micro, Impulse SafeConnect
  • Experience performing technical analysis involving threat event data and evaluating malicious activity.
  • Professional certification in information security - CISSP, CISA, SANS GSEC, or relevant certifications
