Aircraft Ordnance Systems Mechanic (Military Requirement)
Air Reserve Technicians (ARTs) are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy ART positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Force Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.
This is a standing register used to fill position at AFRC locations as vacancies occur. Some positions may have promotion potential to a higher grade than the grade being filled. Multiple vacancies may be filled from this announcement. The beginning and ending salaries may vary depending on location of position.
The cut-off date for these positions is the 25th of each month. Therefore, if we receive your application by midnight on the 25th of the month, you are eligible to go on the register the following month.
Some positions covered may or may not be obligated. Therefore, the selectee may be displaced by reassignment or reduction in force procedures at a later time should the previous incumbent exercise his/her reemployment rights.
Retired military are usually ineligible for membership in the Air Force Reserve. Retired military personnel who have active Air Force Reserve assignments may apply provided they show assignment (position and unit) on their application.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Meet and maintain Air Force Reserve military requirements. Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. (2) May be subject to shift work and uncommon tours of duty. (3) Perform expediter/dispatcher duties. (4) This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. (5) Operate crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle. (6) Stand, bend, and stoop for extended periods of time. (7) Work outside in inclement weather. (8) Be exposed to toxic fumes, fuel, high pressure air and fluids, electrical shock or burns caused by electrical or RF energy. Dangers also include engine noise, blast, ingestion, and fast actuating metal surfaces such as landing gears, speed brakes, and flaps. (9)Transport, assemble, load, arm, or safe any assigned munitions, explosive device, or assembly up to and including class 1 explosives. (10) Be subject to the hazards related to the removal or disassembly of explosive devices or subassemblies from explosive laden aircraft. (11) This is a drug testing designated position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. (12) Obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance. (13) Lift over 80 pounds.

However, you must have had experience and/or training (military or civilian, paid or unpaid) of sufficient scope and quality to be able to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. (ELEMENT B) --Ability to Use and Maintain Equipment--List the hand tools, power tools, specialized tools, and related support equipment that you have used and give brief examples of the work performed with each. (ELEMENT C) --Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, Etc.--List the kinds of equipment you have had to assemble; make; install; test; or repair. Give examples of the work you performed on the equipment such as assemble; disassemble; install; test; maintain; repair; troubleshoot; calibrate; modify; and design.(ELEMENT F) --Technical Practices--Give examples of your work experience that required inventing new methods to do tasks that could not be done in regular ways. State trade theory or technical principles you are familiar with which must be understood to perform the duties of the position for which you are applying. Give examples of work you have performed which required knowledge and experience in new and up-to-date trade practices. Also, give examples of your work, which required precise timing, accurate dimensions, or precise fit. (ELEMENT I) --Use of Test Equipment or Measuring Instruments--List the measuring instruments and/or test equipment that you have used and briefly describe for what purpose you used each. (ELEMENT J) --Troubleshooting--Give examples of your experience troubleshooting equipment. Show the extent to which you had to understand the entire system to isolate the problem. Tell extent of danger to equipment if incorrectly handled while troubleshooting. Give examples of the more difficult troubleshooting you have done. (ELEMENT K) --Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications (including Blueprints), Etc.--What kind of instructions, specification or directives have you had to interpret? Be sure to describe experience in interpreting new instructions or specifications concerning changes in operational procedures. How frequent were changes? On what jobs did you have to interpret manufacturers' guides, catalogues, technical manuals, drawings, blueprints, charts or maps? Give examples of the more difficult instructions, etc. you had to interpret.
