The Paper and Packaging Board (P+PB) is hiring a Public Relations Manager to implement public relations and social media programs for paper and packaging products.  This newly created board and promotion program is funded by paper and packaging manufacturers and importers.  We aspire to create a successful and iconic category branding campaign similar to “Beef.  It’s What’s for Dinner,” “The Incredible Edible Egg, “and “Cotton, the Fabric of our Lives.” 

The Public Relations Manager would be responsible for executing public relations and social media campaigns targeted at consumers, customers and the manufacturers and importers of paper and boxes.  This person would also be the liaison to the Board’s Industry Outreach Committee with the goal of building internal and external relationships that will increase campaign visibility among paper and packaging manufacturers and their customers, industry trade organizations and industry trade media.  This position will

Consumer

  • Assist in the creation and refinement of campaign PR and social media plans with agency (ies)
  • Implement public relations and social media campaigns in collaboration with agency (ies)
  • Provide feedback and direction from internal P+PB team and Marketing and Communications Committee
  • Follow media reconnaissance and provide issues management support

Customers and Manufacturers and Importers

  • Develop, update and manage media lists in support of check-off companies communications priorities
  • Coordinate staff and board members appearance at industry meetings and conferences.
  • Write newsletter copy, push emails, website and twitter copy
  • Write speeches, press releases, presentations , webinars and letters as needed
  • Monitor, analyze and make recommendations for maximizing return on investment for publicity efforts
  • Serve as a key board spokesperson
  • Maintain consistency of board and campaign messaging through internal and external channels

The ideal candidate will have

  • A Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, or related field
  • Five years of public/media relations experience preferably with some time spent working in a PR agency or packaged goods environment or in the media itself
  • Strong presentation, public speaking, and interpersonal skills
  • Effective written communication, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to work with a wide range of audiences with professionalism, tact, and diplomacy
  • Ability to listen, manage change, resolve issues, and ensure collaboration with key team players
  • Strong project management skills with attention to detail
