Business Services Specialist
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for overseeing and processing all aspects of the Department of Transportation Services payroll which consists of over 400 nonexempt and exempt regular, contractual, and student employees. The specialist provides instruction to departmental staff regarding payroll policies and procedures; updates and maintains payroll forms and policies; evaluates effectiveness of payroll operations, recommends, and implements changes.
This responsibilities of this position also includes:
Processing and monitoring new, change and termination appointments in PHR;
Updating salaries/hourly rates at the start of the new fiscal year; processing new hires, terminations, pay rate changes throughout the year;
Processing pay increases and calculations of back pay; updating and maintaining leave records, tracking end-of contract dates,
Keeping and maintaining the official personnel records according to rules and regulations of the University, preparing various staffing and financial reports as requested, and performing other duties as assigned.The Payroll specialist must cultivate employee confidence, protect payroll operations, keep information secure and maintain a strict confidentiality for the Human Resources actions within the department.
