We are seeking a detailed oriented Professional Engineer as a Senior Project Manager in the Location and Design Section. This position will direct, oversee and provide guidance on project management matters to all project team members in Fredericksburg District. It is responsible for the overall project management including planning, organizing, monitoring and directing all work activities and resources necessary to complete assigned projects. Will coordinate and communicate with VDOT and other engineering staff, local governments, other agencies and FHWA. The position will provide accurate right of way and construction plans in accordance with design standards and specifications and ensure that projects are completed on time and on budget. It is the responsible charge engineer for small contracts team providing oversight, training, technical guidance and QA/QC for the small contracts projects.

Minimum Qualifications
Position requires extensive knowledge of principles/practices of transportation project management/engineering; and substantial knowledge of the transportation project development process, project integration on complex projects, and associated regulatory, finance and legal constraints. Candidates should have demonstrated project and change management skills; considerable contract management skills; and exemplary team leadership skills. Ability to understand and apply advanced engineering and/or planning principles/practices to a variety of engineering/construction projects and planning design programs; to use project management software and related computer programs; and to plan, coordinate and manage multiple assignments. Demonstrated skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing, with diverse groups; and in delivering exemplary customer service by self and others. P.E. license required.

Preferred Qualifications
Extensive experience managing projects in the transportation engineering industry. Certification as a Project Management Professional by PMI preferred.

Special Requirements
BS in Civil Engineering or related engineering field with coursework in design of highways, structures, drainage and environmental issues with professional level experience managing transportation projects. Professional Engineer License required. Statement of Economic Interest (SOEI) required. Valid Virginia driver's license. Fingerprint based background check, references, work history and DMV records will be verified prior to employment. Position is designated essential in emergency operation events and is required to work outside normal work hours to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
