We have an immediate opening for a Full Time Compensation Analyst position at our Alexandria, Virginia office location.


Under limited supervision, the incumbent performs a variety of responsible professional, technical and analytical classification and compensation activities related to the development and administration of the organizations compensation system. Maintains and ensures consistent application of the classification standards for job classes; and/or other related activities.

Essential Duties
Reviews new positions in anticipation of recruitment to ensure appropriate job pricing and classification. Based on position-specific information, determines if an existing description can be used. As necessary, modifies and creates new descriptions which accurately reflect current roles, responsibilities and requirements.

Uses published or conducts ad hoc surveys to obtain and analyze market pay rates.


Makes recommendations on appropriate salary range. Reviews recommendations within organization for internal equity. Prepares reports on findings and handles administrative steps to formalize recommendations.

Participates in the design, analysis, budgeting and implementation of base pay, bonus and incentive programs.

Reviews managers’ and employees’ request for job reclassification and makes salary range determination. This includes reviewing job questionnaires, conferring with managers and employees, evaluating jobs and preparing written reports on findings. Communicates with internal clients regarding the result of compensation work.

Reviews jobs as part of a broader effort including reorganizations or projects, including both job audit and evaluation. Document job-specific findings and recommendations to contribute to a comprehensive project report.

Develops and document procedures to streamline processes and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and work with HR Managers to communicate and educate Managers.

Work with HRIS and IT staff to ensure that the PeopleSoft system meets compensation needs and is updated to reflect changes to salary structures, bonus programs, etc.
Working within systems and procedures, ensures all aspects of job creation are addressed in a timely manner i.e. creation of position numbers, posting of new and revised descriptions, etc.

Researches situations as they arise related to aspects of compensation to provide clarity for resolution in consideration of contract provisions, historical practices, similar situations, etc.

Develops communications for salary, incentive and bonus programs.

Assist HR Managers and Managers with compensation related issues

Participates in the review and recommendation of salary placements for new hires as requested.

Provides data input to annual salary surveys.

Special Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or other discipline directly related to the position or a combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfactorily perform the essential job functions.

A minimum of three to five years’ experience in the analysis, design, and/or administration of compensation programs.

Strong MS Office skills including Word and Excel are required. PowerPoint will be useful.


HRIS experience a plus, especially PeopleSoft.

Knowledge of human resources principles and best practices in compensation and employee relations as well as applicable federal, state and local rules, regulations and/or statutes required.

Knowledge of research methods and data analysis techniques required.

Knowledge of excel for analysis of data required.
