Provide instructor development training for the NRA�s Law Enforcement Activities Division�s Firearm Instructor Development Schools, which are intended for public and private law enforcement and the U.S. Military.
1. Researches, develops and presents related material for the Firearms Instructors Development training program. Reviews and receives training aid material so as to assure NRA�s courses are current and applicable.
2. Responsible for the development and direction of part-time instructors selected to lead or support in assigned classes, as well as range presentations as relative to the Law Enforcement Instructor Development Schools.
3. Solicits, seeks and secures training sites for the Law Enforcement Instructor Development Schools.
4. Provide, on request, technical assistance to public and private law enforcement, the U.S. military instructors and their respective agencies.
5. Responsible for conducting as the lead instructor, of a minimum of fifteen (15) classes/courses in the disciplines you are assigned.
6. Responsible for establishing a liaison with and attending annual meetings or conferences of varied law enforcement and law enforcement training associations as assigned.
The Staff Instructor selected for this position would report and work from the NRA headquarters office in Fairfax, Virginia. High visibility with general public, private and military personnel, instructors and their agencies engaged in similar types of training, and NRA staff. Extensive local and national travel required. Weekend work required. Physical ability to negotiate steps, ladders and stand for extended periods of time and run on occasion required. Physical ability to lift firearms or ammunition containers required. Ability to demonstrate any tactical movement or entry method, adopt any shooting position, hold in position for extended periods and recover from same unassisted required. Possess the hand, arm and upper body strength required to safely handle, load, fire, reload, fire, unload, clear and make safe any student firearms as required. Frequently exposed to hearing, vision and other hazards associated with firearms training.
Bachelor�s Degree in Law Enforcement or related discipline or equivalent law enforcement experience required. Ten years of public law enforcement experience and a minimum of five years of law enforcement firearm instructor experience required. Experience as Match Coordinator or competitor in Police Pistol Combat events.
Demonstrated ability to develop course material and exercises to multi-skill level and multi cultural groups required. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Ability to adapt instructional methods to accommodate a wide variety of skill levels, learning abilities and cultural diversity essential. Working knowledge of the demands of law enforcement training and relevant case law and liability as relative to public and private law enforcement training, firearms instruction and instructors and how such laws impact on law enforcement agencies and public responsibility essential.
