As an Operations Research Specialist, you will:
  • Perform data science work that requires extraction of knowledge from various surveillance systems and programs: analysis; improved understanding and communication; development/visualization of new concepts; and/or processes that add value to health services delivery and the decision-making process.
  • Plan, organize, and carry to completion various operations research studies involving analysis of supply chain and logistics operations processes.
  • Participate in complex human capital studies and is responsible for defining specific human capital issues or problems involved, formulating specific approaches or more general policies, evaluating findings and making recommendations.
  • Identify emerging human capital and management problems and policy issues using mathematical techniques and analytical models.
  • Develop formulas and other statistical analysis applied to human capital, workforce, and management issues that influence the direction and scope of studies conducted on a divisional or service-wide level.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications for all grade levels:
Degree in operations research; OR at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

AND

Minimum Qualifications for GS-11:

To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level, which must include the following experience: designing visual materials (e.g., publications, presentations, or any other communications media) to disseminate public health information and/or promote basic and advanced scientific, technical, regulatory, or general information.

OR

Education: Have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree.

OR

Combination education and experience: Have a combination of graduate level education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

Minimum Qualifications for GS-12:
To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level, which must include the following experience: developing methods to identify human capital problems and policy issues using mathematical techniques and analytical models.

OR


Education: Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

Minimum Qualifications for GS-13:
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level, which must include the following experience: conducting human capital studies to evaluate, design and improve organizational development, strategic planning and decision models.

Minimum Qualifications for GS-14:
To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level, which must include the following experience: providing mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, and cost effectiveness analytic methods on program operations and business processes.

Minimum Qualifications for GS-15:
To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level, which must include the following experience: conducting operational research and analysis concerning human capital issues utilizing mathematical techniques and/or statistical methods; and providing data to improve operations using techniques to resolve systemic problems.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

  • This position may be subject to a OGE Financial Disclosure CDC Financial Disclosure-The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention inspires public confidence in its trust responsibilities and mission by maintaining high ethical principles. This position is subject to the confidential financial disclosure requirements of the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 (P.L. 95-521). Therefore, if selected, you will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450) to determine if a conflict or an appearance of a conflict exists between your financial interest and your prospective position with the agency. This Information will be required annually.

This position is being filled through Direct Hire Authority for this occupation and is open to all US Citizens.
