Principal Risk Specialist / Risk Manager

As a Principal Risk Specialist at Capital One you'll be responsible for working with business partners to identify and mitigate potential risks to Capital One. Principal Risk Specialists at Capital One are the front line of defense to ensure our Company remains stable and profitable.
Principal Risk Specialists at Capital One are highly motivated Risk Management professionals with excellent organizational and communication skills. They have a high level of exposure across lines of business and have the opportunity to create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to the Company.
Responsibilities:
- Lead analysis on risk information to gain risk insights
- Consult on initiatives, business objectives, processes, risk events, controls and/or monitoring
- Design, test, and facilitate implementation of internal governance processes and formal controls
- Develop ad-hoc analysis, deep dive investigations and drive specific risk initiatives as needed
- Monitor and analyze data to track progress, identify gaps, and provide insights to senior leadership on Tech Control Automation and other efforts
- Prepare regular reports and presentations to communicate the impact and effectiveness of initiatives, efforts, and workstreams
- Manage projects that support team objectives and key results
- Identify opportunities to streamline, automate and enhance our risk governance practices, processes and controls
- Perform gap assessments and create recommendations to ensure progress towards organizational adoption of control transformation and automation
- Support execution of 1st line of defense assessment of risk and compliance with risk governance practices and processes
- Coordinate with 2nd line of defense advisors to address audit and exam requests
- Lead and participate in communication and engagement forums
- Create engaging and persuasive communication materials and tailor communication strategies to address the needs and preferences of diverse stakeholder groups
- Develop practical solutions to improve risk management processes using data and technology
- Participate in and execute other special projects for the team on a periodic basis
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or military experience
- At least 3 years of Risk Management Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in Project/Process management
- Strong subject matter expertise in controls development, controls management, controls testing, and reporting activities
- Experience working in an iterative, highly collaborative environment
- Experience working in the financial services industry
- Experience with Governance, Risk, and Compliance software tools
