As a member of the central Donor Relations and Stewardship team, the Assistant Director of Donor Recognition will report to the Director of Donor Recognition and Engagement. The Assistant Director will serve an integral role in stewarding the university’s most generous donors, specifically stewarding donors who make a commitment to name a university facility, space, program, or faculty fund.
The Assistant Director will manage the university-wide and USM system-wide processes for naming university facilities and programs. This includes managing policies, timelines and resources, consulting with University Relations staff on new and future gifts to facilities and programs and creating associated documentation. Additionally, this position will coordinate the approval process and recognition for named spaces under the University Relations Naming Guidelines and have the opportunity to research, design, and implement new processes and support materials to enhance the existing process. They will work on the campus-wide capital project stewardship effort and create and lead a named space annual stewardship plan, which focuses on strategic outreach, engagement and reporting on impact for the university’s brick and mortar donors.
The Assistant Director will also manage and organize fund administration and stewardship surrounding named faculty funds, such as chair and professorships. This position will ensure that funds are spent in a timely manner, according to donor intent and stewarded on an annual basis for some of the university’s highest level donors. They will create best practices, enhance data records, and implement and lead donor communications and high-end events to launch this new stewardship effort. Examples of events include groundbreakings, dedications, and chair installation ceremonies, which this position will offer front-line customer service to university stakeholders, and overseeing the timeline management, invitation lists, programmatic elements, and analysis for each event.
Finally, the Assistant Director will work on the planning and execution of the capital campaign stewardship strategy for the upcoming capital campaign. This will include collaborating with colleagues throughout the division including development and gift acceptance. They will manage campaign stewardship pieces such as impact reports, communications, donor gifts, and campaign stewardship messaging.
