Qualifications
Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-511-13.
GS-13: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the federal GS-12 level, auditing performance of an organization for compliance with policies and procedures.
Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-511-14.
GS-14: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the federal GS-13 level, leading others in auditing organizational performance.

Auditing - Knowledge of audit methods, principles, and regulations to objectively review the organizations business processes. Audit Design - Ability to design audits that provide effective data to be used for developing and implementing internal controls and processes. Advising - Skill in providing objective, expert, technical advice, and recommendations to leadership. Presenting - Ability to present information in a clear, informative, and professional manner to a wide variety of audiences.

Education
Basic Requirements for Performance Auditors
Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting.
OR
Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.

As the Auditor(Performance), you will:
- Perform audits using appropriate audit techniques, analyze data to support findings, and develop recommendations to improve workflows, processes and controls, correct deficiencies and better mitigate risk.
- Assess the efficiency and productivity of internal workflows and make recommendations for improvement to optimize efficiency.
- Recommend ways to improve procedures or align them more closely with company mission, vision, values, and goals.
- Study policy, regulations and best practices and compare them with actual business activities.
- Objectively review the organization's business processes, evaluating the efficacy of risk management, protecting against fraud and theft, and ensuring the organization is complying with relevant laws and statutes; prepare comprehensive audit work papers documenting audit work performed.
- Conduct research and perform preliminary audit inquiries. Inquiry areas include identification of organizational elements and key personnel responsible, analysis of goals and objectives, discussions with National Gallery officials, physical inspections, review of management reports and procedures.
- Recommend audit scope and develop review methodology.
- Provide advice or expertise to the senior auditor, the audit committee of the Board of Trustees, Director, Executive Team, or Congressional inquiries relating to audit matters.
- Act as an objective source of independent advice.
- Discuss audit findings with key stakeholders to develop constructive final report; prepare a comprehensive final report summarizing the audit results.
- Meet with top management officials to present audit findings, explain the significance of conclusions, and justify recommendations.
- Meet with the Director and/or Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees to report on the status of audits, findings, and recommendations to improve the work processes.
- Present findings to upper management in the form of reports and presentations.
