As the largest university library system in the Washington D.C.-Baltimore area, the University of Maryland (UMD) Libraries serve more than 41,000 students and 14,000 faculty and staff of the flagship College Park campus. The Libraries’ extensive collections, programs, and services enable student success, support teaching, research, and creativity, and enrich the intellectual and cultural life of the community. A member of the Big Ten Academic Alliance and the Association of Research Libraries, the UMD Libraries were honored with the 2020 Excellence in Academic Libraries award in the university category from the Association of College and Research Libraries. The University of Maryland Libraries are committed to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. We support university and library efforts to create a more just campus environment, understanding the unique, interdisciplinary focus of libraries and archives as collectors and curators of the historical, literary, artistic, and scientific record. We provide collections, services, and programs that reflect the diversity of our community, heighten cultural awareness, and incorporate the histories, experiences, and expressions of those who have been historically marginalized and/or underrepresented. We work to ensure equitable access to our facilities, resources, and services. NATURE OF WORK: The Consortial Systems (CS) Librarian is part of a team of Systems Librarians and professional staff dedicated to the shared systems and services managed by the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI) Library Consortium. The CS Librarian participates in the implementation, maintenance, and support of applications used by the 17 member libraries that make up the consortium. Reporting to the Head of Consortial Library Systems and Operations, the Consortial Systems Librarian works with other USMAI team members to meet operational objectives and maintain current systems and services, respond to member problems utilizing ticketing systems and other methods to track work progress and communicate USMAI staff and member-library staff working in multiple locations. The incumbent supports collaboration and teamwork by liaising with consortium committees, communities, and working groups in suggesting and drafting policies, procedures, and programs. The Consortial Systems Librarian supports excellence through system and subject matter expertise. USMAI is currently undergoing an ILS system migration to Alma / Primo VE so the incumbent must have or develop broad and detailed mastery of these systems, especially in access service and resource sharing, to help the consortium maximize efficiencies through both workflows and system integration. Working with other USMAI staff and in consultation with the consortium's longterm and strategic goals, the Consortial Systems Librarian gathers data to evaluate programs and services. Under the direction of the Head of Consortial Library Systems; Operations, the Consortial Systems Librarian effectively balances liaising with members of the subject matter community with demands of the day-to-day operational needs of the consortium.
