Duties

As a Logistics Management Specialist at the GS-0346-9/11 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Serves as the point of contact for Readiness Logistics, transportation, property accountability, travel laws, regulations, policies, programs, and procedures. Plans and coordinates DTRA transportation and travel. Monitors the processing and review of travel orders for compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Supports the DTRA mission with staff work and coordination. Actions DTRA requirements for transportation and provides accounting and appropriation systems to ensure travel expenses are accurately recorded to appropriate accounts.
  • Provides support for the Joint Operation Planning and Execution System (JOPES) process as it relates to scheduling of movement and loading of airframes for DTRA deployable personnel departing for a combatant commander's area of responsibility.
  • Supports efforts to inventory and control weapons, ammunition, and other sensitive items. Supports the acquisition, storage, maintenance, and accountability procedures of equipment items. Provides audit techniques to identify discrepancies and recommends modifications.
  • Independently conducts research, compiles, interprets, and analyzes technical data from a wide range of sources, draws conclusions, and devises practical recommendations for action.
  • Communicates both orally and in writing in order to recommend solutions to transportation-related problems, property and travel issues, and provide appropriate analysis, findings, and recommendations. When required, briefs senior officials on sensitive and controversial transportation issues.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-09, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Assisting with the movement of equipment, supplies, and other sensitive cargo to accompany deploying forces into a Combatant Commander's area of responsibility
  • Advising staff on transportation policies, programs, and transportation related safety measures
  • Assisting with the submission of information to determine the proper number of required sensitive items, and arranges for the movement of equipment, supplies, weapons, and other sensitive cargo
  • Preparing itineraries and mapping the most efficient route to ensure that travelers arrive at designated locations in a timely manner.

B. A master's or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B.; or J.D., if related;

C. You have some specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and you have more than one year but less than two years of education as described in B. You have computed the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.)

You may qualify at the GS-11, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Arranging for the movement of equipment, supplies, and other sensitive cargo to accompany deploying forces into a Combatant Commanders area of responsibility
  • Coordinating with airport authorities and processing the proper paperwork for the security of sensitive items while in transit on commercial aviation
  • Advising staff on transportation policies, programs, and transportation related safety measures
  • Developing and publishing instructions and directives to implement traffic management and commercial transportation regulations and policies
  • Performing procurement of transportation, storage and related services
  • Preparing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) detailing the process of reconciling monthly airline bills, reporting of discrepancies, and preparation of payment documents.

B. Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study.
