Duties

  • You will set-up, calibrate and operate mechanical/electronic/nucleonic equipment associated with Engineering and Weapons laboratories.
  • You will instruct personnel in the proper operation of mechanical and electronic equipment found in the engineering laboratories.
  • You will set-up, operate, and characterize radiation detection systems and handle radioactive sources and neutron generation equipment.
  • You will design and direct the construction of, or personally fabricate test equipment, electronic and mechanical, for instructional purposes.
  • You will function as an Assistant Radiation Safety Officer.

  • You must pass a radiation health physical, maintain all health requirements, stay current in the TLD (ThermoLuminescent Dosimetry) program, and meet all requirements of the Radiation Health program.

Qualifications

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Designing electronic and mechanical test devices in support of engineering operations, with experience in nuclear radiation physics; 2) Instructing personnel in the use of a neutron generator; and 3) Advising personnel in radiation safety.

GS-10: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Setting up, calibrating, and operating mechanical/electronic/nucleonic equipment {such as a neutron generator (2.5MeV or 4MeV)} in support of engineering operations; 2) Developing solutions to engineering design issues; and 3) Handling radioactive material in accordance with nuclear guidelines.
