Duties

  • You will design construction projects using computer software (e.g., Computer Aided Design and Drafting [CADD], geographic information systems [GIS]).
  • You will develop architectural and engineering project scopes to justify projects and support the mission and operational requirements of an organization.
  • You will formulate architectural and engineering project requirements in accordance with facilities construction guidelines.
  • You will participate in pre-design conferences to represent the interest of the organization for facilities programs and projects.
  • You will present the status of architect-engineer projects to keep management informed of progress or potentially controversial matters.

  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.


Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate one year of Specialized Experience.

To qualify at the GS-09 level your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting in drafting initial facility plans and project scopes of work; 2) Reading and interpreting drawings, designs, and plans; 3) Researching policy documents, files, reports, and other data; AND 4) Applying basic formulas to routine calculations. NOTE: Your resume must clearly support these duties. OR

Successful completion of two full years of graduate level education leading to a Master's Degree. OR

Successful completion of a Master's Degree or equivalent graduate degree. OR

A combination of education and experience that equates to one year of experience. OR

Registered to practice Architecture by one of the State registration boards, using standards in compliance with the basic minimum provisions recommended by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. NOTE: Registration must be submitted with application package.

To qualify at the GS-07 level your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. OR

Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education. OR

Successful completion of a 5-year program of study of at least 160 semester hours leading to a Bachelor of Architecture (or architectural engineering curricula) or higher degree in an accredited college or university. OR

Successful completion of a bachelor's or higher degree in architecture (or architectural engineering curricula) and one year of appropriate experience as a technician equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or higher. OR

A combination of education and experience that equates to one year of experience.

Physical Demands

Occasional physical activity is required including walking, climbing or bending in the performance of field work for designs and during field inspections of existing and/or new facilities during design and construction.

Work Environment
Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Travel to CONUS and OCONUS activities for assigned projects is required. There are occasional factory visits, and exposures to conditions in buildings and facilities that are under construction.

Education

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited college or university in architecture; or related field which includes 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems
OR a combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of your background is demonstrated by at least one of the following: (I) Related Curriculum- Degree from an accredited college or university in architectural engineering may be accepted as satisfying in full the basic requirements, provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in response A. (II) Experience- An applicant lacking a degree in architecture must have at least 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that the applicant has acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture.

A 40-hour work week is typical of this position.

Recruitment incentives may be authorized to eligible new hires.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.

This position is eligible for part time, full time or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.

Vacancies filled from this announcement may be filled at the GS-07 or GS-09 grade level.
