Open Rank Faculty in Public HealthThe George Mason University Department of Global and Community Health, within the College of Public Health, is launching an open-rank search for two faculty members in epidemiology and/or social and behavioral sciences who are committed to academic excellence and to conducting original and collaborative research in public health with populations within and/or outside of the United States.Though all research areas will be considered, preference will be given to applicants with expertise in infectious disease, mental and behavioral health, youth risk behaviors, maternal and child health, violence against women/children, or environmental health. Midcareer and senior candidates are expected to have an active or recent history of externally-funded research, an established publication record, and evidence of effective classroom teaching commensurate for an appointment at the rank of associate or full professor. Early career candidates are expected to demonstrate strong evidence of potential as an independent researcher to obtain external funding and show promise of effective classroom teaching.These are state-funded, full-time (9-month) tenure-track/tenured faculty positions with additional summer research and teaching opportunities. Appointments will begin in August 2024. Required Qualifications:An earned doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, DrPH, ScD) in a public health, epidemiology, behavioral, or social science discipline or a closely-related field by spring 2024; public health-related research experience; record of refereed publications; active or recent history of extramurally funded research for midcareer and senior candidates; strong oral and written communication skills; and experience teaching and/or mentoring students at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.Preferred Qualifications:Candidates for associate or full professorships ideally will have an established and funded line of research and experience with mentoring across the academic spectrum (e.g., graduate students, junior faculty). Candidates for assistant professorships ideally will have postdoctoral fellowship training with an established trajectory of refereed publications and evidence of research funding (extramurally funded grants or awards). Preference will be given to candidates who can teach a wide range of courses for MPH and doctoral public health students.About the Department of Global and Community Health:The Department of Global and Community Health has 24 full-time faculty members and an active research portfolio of approximately $2 million that focuses on public health research and teaching. Extramural research support comes from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, the National Institute for Justice, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Faculty expertise is multidisciplinary with members in epidemiology, biostatistics, and the social and behavioral sciences.The Department prepares students for careers in public health just minutes from the nation's capital. We offer accredited and nationally ranked undergraduate and graduate degrees that provide students with the knowledge, skills, and experience to solve existing and emerging public health challenges.
