Duties
This position is part of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) Office of Safety. This organization is within FMCSA's headquarters in Washington, DC. The purpose of the position is to provide support to the Associate Administrator for the Office of Safety (AA) and the MC-S Senior Policy Advisors.
The Recent Graduate Transportation Specialist:
The ideal candidate possesses the skills to provide executive level administrative and program support, including the ability to collect data; analyze facts and prepare reports, briefings, and other applicable correspondence; and manage multiple projects to meet deadlines.

EDUCATION INFORMATION:
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, or other fields related to the position.

MOBILITY AGREEMENT: Appointees will be required to sign a Mobility Agreement. If you decline a position due to geographic location, you will receive no further consideration under this announcement. The Recent Graduate Transportation Specialist:
- Ensures that all required input and coordination are obtained in time to meet Agency deadlines, that the deliverable conforms to reporting and format requirements; is assembled properly; and is complete. Coordinates with appropriate staff members and initiates action to correct deficiencies.
- Schedules meetings and conference rooms. Identifies and contacts appropriate attendees. Contacts the Office of Chief Counsel when legal representation is required to address issues. Assists with consolidating presentations for large events.
- Receives and processes correspondence in accordance with OST/DOT and FMCSA guidelines. Monitors and tracks incoming controlled correspondence and distributes to the appropriate staff member for action.
- Uses a variety of office software programs such as PowerPoint, Excel, Word, SharePoint, or other formatting programs to prepare letters, correspondence, presentations, spreadsheets, transmittals, briefings, visual aids, and other documents.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
PATHWAYS RECENT GRADUATE PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY - You must:

- provide required documentation to verify degree has been, or will be, completed prior to appointment; AND
- meet the basic qualification standards outlined under the Qualifications section for this series and grade level.
If selected, you:
- must sign a Pathways Recent Graduate Program Participant Agreement;
- will serve on an excepted service appointment for at least a two year trial period;
- will enter a formal training program with a mentor and execute an Individual Development Plan outlining training requirements and program expectations;
- must be provided at least 40 hours of interactive training, directly linked to your employment field, within 45 days of appointment;
- will be assigned a mentor within 90 days of appointment;
- will be evaluated for conversion to a term or permanent appointment in the competitive service at the end of two years.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service.

VETERANS: Your last DD214 (member 4 copy), Certificate of Release or Discharge From Active Duty, that shows the type of discharge and all dates of active duty is required to verify your eligibility. It need not be official.
- If you wish to be considered as a preference eligible, you need to submit a copy of your DD214 (member-4 copy).
- If you are claiming preference eligibility as a disabled veteran, you must submit proof of entitlement of this preference which is normally a valid letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs certifying to the present existence of the service-connected disability and indicating the percentage of your disability. An SF-15 is desired, but not required.
