Job Summary

Aptive Resources is seeking a detail-oriented, senior communications specialist with previous experience developing engaging content for federal clients. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer, skilled at developing content for a variety of mediums, including websites, social media, and blogs. They are a proactive problem solver who works well both independently and as part of a team. The candidate must be committed to providing superior customer service and have a positive and flexible attitude. They excel when presenting to clients and are comfortable receiving and implementing feedback on project tasks. They will ensure themes, messages and desired outcomes are consistent across communication channels.

This full-time position is located in Tysons Corner, VA.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support project meetings and conference calls for assigned projects, workgroups, and teams (to include scheduling, reserving conference rooms, issuing invitations, developing the agenda, and recording minutes)
  • Assist in developing executive-level briefings and presentations
  • Support several program initiatives providing various services, including program and project management related support, communication support, program analysis, change management, organizational and functional assessments, performance metric development, data analysis, implementation planning, and business process reengineering
  • Create reports, metrics and tracking mechanisms and provide analysis to relevant stakeholders
  • Coordinate and consolidate status report information on a weekly and monthly timeframe


Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 - 8 years of relevant experience in communications or journalism.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related program, such as mass communications, marketing, or public relations.
  • Prior experience working with the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, or the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.


Desired Qualifications

  • Oversee communications workstream and manage a team of multiple communications specialists.
  • Develop and implement strategic communications plans.
  • Write website content, newsletter articles, blog posts, training materials, reports, and video scripts.
  • Conduct analysis to inform environmental scans and strategic communications plans.
  • Interface with Aptive graphics team to create professional promotional and training materials.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills.
